Laurel Hill, Coleraine
Laurel Hill, Coleraine
Laurel Hill Gardens is a development of 30 homes in Coleraine.
Designed to Lifetime Homes and Secured by Design standards, the scheme was developed by BW Homes and Construction (BW) for Radius Housing Association (Radius).
Radius Housing’s criteria was to ensure the development met the varying levels of need for the young, mature and older members of the public. The end product by BW was a fully integrated design suitable for all, with ease of access and offering benefits to the older generation, the disabled and anyone with a physical impairment.
BW oversaw the management from planning requirements, design & engineering, careful management of total costs and values, meeting stringent client requirements and at all times investing in staff training and continuing personal development.
Insulation, boilers, windows & external doors were carefully selected to ensure that this resulted in achieving the U-values and the the maximum score in the EPC.
Project management
BW run a well organised and professional delivery team with the end result being that Laurel Hill was completed and handed over 4 months in advance of the scheduled date of September 2018. This is testament to the team in place and the management of all programme elements. Our Procurement department appointed all resources 2 months prior to ensure a smooth build process.
Health and safety
Our Site Manager, Sam Mc Laughlin successfully managed Health & Safety on the Laurel Hill project from commencement to final handover of the last phase with his meticulous approach to Health & Safety which ensured his site achieved an overall average of 91% in terms of compliance. The site faced many challenges during its development, which included deep excavations for attenuation tanks, limited space being available, access via a spinal road, and another live project adjacent to the scheme.
Sustainability performance
BW ensured construction was compliant with both Environmental Legislation and ISO 14001. Sustainability targets were incorporated within our (SMART) environmental aims and objectives in addition to developing and implementing the waste management plan. BW aimed to ensure a high degree of conservation on Laurel Hill protecting existing mature trees whilst rock was crushed for reuse.
Management of public impact
BW Senior management liaised with neighbouring communities and a community consultation was held in a local youth centre prior to planning. BW mitigated their concerns through the planning process by amending the design including additional boundary treatments.
BW is a registered member of the Considerate Constructors Scheme.
With an aggressive build programme in place and challenges to overcome such as water attenuation and existing services, BW fulfilled and delivered on a quality development, within budget and well ahead of schedule.
Considerate Constructors
Registered with Considerate Constructors, BW has embraced its core values to achieve best practice and to improve the image of Laurel Hill, the company and the industry.
