Last week, the Braidwater Group participated in a UK-wide initiative called ‘Open Doors’ aimed at opening up the Construction industry to young people and encouraging them to explore potential career opportunities.
The events – delivered as part of the Build UK ‘Open Doors’ initiative and co-ordinated by Construction Futures in Northern Ireland – were a huge success in their first year, with house builders and the wider construction industry opening their doors to pupils throughout Northern Ireland.
Fionnuala McKenna, Head of Strategic Development at Construction Futures, highlighted the initiative’s goal:
“We’ve seen over 500 visitors from primary and post-primary schools, FE Colleges and Universities don hard hats and high vis to get a peek behind the scaffolding and see first hand what it’s like to work in our construction Industry.
It’s been an honour to see the hard work put in by the companies pay off with an incredible response from the education sector ’’
Aisling Conway, Senior People Manager at the Braidwater Group, highlighted what their involvement meant:
“We’re thrilled to have been part of Open Doors week, welcoming students from five different Schools/Colleges to our sites. During tours, we provided insights and information about various careers in construction. Our final tour of the week focused on the role of software in modern construction practices, essential for planning and on-site activities.”
“This initiative was a great platform to showcase our industry to schools, colleges, and universities across Northern Ireland. We extend our thanks to Construction Futures for organising this valuable event.”
The schools hosted by the Braidwater Group last week were Foyle College, Limavady High School, North West Regional College, St. Columb’s College and St. Joseph’s Boys’ Secondary School.
